A Quick update

I had surgery and it went good.  They found out when they went in though that I had also dislocated my shoulder in the accident and the cartilage was all stretched out.  So they had to do a bit more repair to bring that in, so my shoulder joint will be secure.  I am NOT allowed to move for 6 weeks and than another roughly 8 weeks of therapy after that. 

So I am taking it easy and won't be on much.  Typing is a bit harder to do all one handed, but of course I will be still doing as much as I can. 

Flats Handwashing Challenge

SO....Dirty Diaper Laundry is starting the Flats Handwashing Challenge!  The challenge is to use only flats (except for overnight) and to handwash them for ONE WEEK, May 23-30.  It's only a week which isn't bad. 

Here are the rules: (Made by Dirty Diaper Laundry)

• You MUST use Flats.
• You MUST handwash them.  How is up to you.  (bathtub, sink, large wash tub, portable non electronic washing machine, or camp style washer (bucket and plunger- think churning butter)
• You MUST air dry them.  (indoors or outdoors, makes no difference)
• You MUST limit your number of covers in rotation to 5 or less.
• You can use any detergent you want.  (Keep in mind that you still want cloth safe detergents)
• You can still use your nighttime diapers but I ask that you try to make flats work.  Maybe try a prefold wrapped in a flat.
• You can use disposable liners.
• You CAN’T use a diaper sprayer.  I thought long and hard about this one, but at an average cost of 40.00 this is one diaper accessory that is out of range for many families.  Dunk, swish, flush, or scrape!
• You MUST start the morning of May 23 and end the evening of May 30.
• You MUST fill out a completion survey about your experience.  Results will be published here and can be republished on your own blog.
• You don’t have to be a blogger!  Your conclusions about the experiment will be entered into the survey at the end of the challenge.  You can share on your Facebook, Twitter, various messageboards.  But if you are a blogger please share your experience on your own blog.  Grab the button and let people know you are planning on joining the challenge.  Recruit others!  Challenge your own readers to join and fill out the completion survey.  You can blog everyday updating your experience, beforehand to let people know you are getting ready for it and explain what you will be doing, and of course, after the fact to let people know how it went.  If you hated it, say so.  If you think it was awesome and want to continue in some aspect, say that too!  Who knows, flats might be your favorite diaper!

I read the rules and thought "Hey that sounds like some fun"  I myself have NEVER used a flat.  I have seen them, but that's about it.  I have been teaching others about cloth diapers, and think this would be a GREAT way to show others that it can be done with VERY LITTLE money. 


REally anything can be made into a flat.  A tshirt a sheet, a towel.  So i am going to do this.  I know I don't want to use disposables on my little guy and going on a vacation, is rather difficult if you have to make sure to have a washing machine handy.  Plus who wants to spend all that time in a laundromat.  So I am going to learn how to use flats and wash them.

Plus they are VERY inexpensive form to cloth diaper.  People try to tell me that cloth is too expensive.  Well, it's really not.  You can spend a lot of money of course but you don't have to.  you can make it cost less than a box of diapers.  Just some flats and covers.

Now this will be interesting on my side, as I JUST had shoulder surgery and this challenge time falls in my recovery period.  I am NOT ALLOWED to use my arm at all.  So it will be one handed to wash them and change my little guy.  Thankfully my husband is on board and the others that are going to be helping.  I am excited to show those people just how easy cloth diapers really are.

Super Cute Monkey shirt

I recevied this Monkey shirt to review.  It was from www.tshirtprinting.net.  I LOVE the shirt.  The monkey is firmly in place on the shirt, and after wearing and washing, it's not coming off at all.  I really hate when you find a place that can make you shirts and the designs come off. Snapily----- My review on these AWESOME cards

I was lucky and able to review the newest technology in Pictures.  The ANIMATED card.  You get to chose 2 images and they put both on one card.  Then you can have a saying on the back.  So then when you move the card, you see one picture and then it switches to the next picture.  So this is the PERFECT way to send a card with your 2 favorites pictures.  No need to narrow it to just one picture to send.

They also do offer 3-D picture cards as well.

Handwashing Diaper Challenge

Basically it's going one week using flats, (which i have never used), and handwashing your diapers.  I can do that easily.   Well, normally I can.  The interesting part for me, will come from doing it one handed.  It will be jsut about 6 weeks out of my surgery then, but I still won't be able to use my arm.  So I will have to do it all by hand.  Hmmmm... Wonder how hubs will feel about this.  Hopefully he will take part in the washing. 

If there are any moms out there, with any tips let me know.  I also have to find some covers.  So if you make any and want to send on my way, let me know.  I will GLADLY do a review on them as well, and get you some exposure. 

My news

Well, I managed to get my surgery scheduled  YEAH.  it's in a week though, downside.  but i will be able to get back to all the things i love quicker than waiting a month to have it done.  So any items in my shop to be handmade, if ordered quickly i could possibly have done.  Otherwise, you will all have to just place orders and wait until this summer.

I will continue to update my blog throughout the process.  It will prove to be interesting, since it is my shoulder, and i won't be able to use it for 6 weeks, and then after that will be 6=8 weeks of therapy.  And sinec my little guy will be 8 months when i have the surgery.

I am SUPER excited.  I found this great new website.  I have a banner on the side of my page.  Click there and check them out.  I just ordered some photos for them.  they change.  so it's 2 pictures in one.  plus they also have a 3d card.  That I will have to find just the right pic to try out that one. 

when i get my card in the mail I will be posting pics of it, so all can see.  It will be the PERFECT easter gift for my parents.  they LOVE having pics of the kids.  And now have one card, and it's a dual picture. 

I am already starting to sort out pics, so when i have more money i can order more. 

New Item--- Pinafore

So I have been seeing some of those SUPER cute pinafore's.  My duaghter has seen them as well and really wanted one.  So I have been messing around and have come up with a pattern.  I will be posting pics of the completed project in a few days.  I am SUPER excited about it.

Sick kids

I am sorry that i haven't been posting more lately.  my kids have both been sick all week.  my little guy is 7 months and has his 4th ear infection.  This morning he decided he should start throwing up as well.  So of course NO fun over here at all.

Both kids have this nasty cold and cough going this week.  HOpefully by next week they are doing better. 

I am working on a newborn set of matching pants and bloomers for my nephew who should be here sometime soon.  Can't wait for him to show up.
