Car Accident

Last Thursday night I was involved in a car accident.  When I look at my car now, I can just say that we are very lucky.  As you can see by the picture my car had some significant damage.

This got me to thinking more about what could happen in an accident.  For me I was still conscious.  I was able to call my husband and he was on the scene within about 10 minutes.  I was able to talk to the Emergency responders that came. But if not what would I do.

So I decided to make an emergency bag.  I am going to put one in each of the glove boxes.  I am going to have all pertinent information on them.  And since I know what all they asked me about a dozen times, I can take a good guess at what they will want.

You can make your own.

The first thing is to get a piece of paper and put the info on their.  As you can see how I set mine up.  The birthdates of your kids is important if they would need anything medical.  Since everything typically is by age and weight.

The hospital was helpful since, I was about the middle of several hospital locations, I could go to the one I knew and was familiar with.  Plus my doctor is associated with that hospital.

And ALLERGIES, and medicines  A HUGE plus.  I didn't put meds down, since no one is on them, but if you or your kids are that is helpful.  Since you don't want an interaction.  And I would HIGHLIGHT the allergies and the meds to make sure they stick out right away

I then thought if to put in some other small supplies.  So then I have my own small first aid kit.  It may not be needed in an accident, but if I am at the park, I know I can fix up the kids.

I then put everything in a ziploc bag.  I put the Paper facing out.  So if in an accident, someone could get from the glove box, and could see everything right away.  No fumbing a bag open or smudging something up and then they would be unable to read.

These would also make some great christmas present.

  1. Do Emergency Responders look in the glove box for this information? It also might be good to put this information on your phone in some way. I know it's good to have an ICE folder on your phone so it's easy for responders to know who to call in case of emergency. Glad you all were okay, looks like you got T-boned pretty good.

    1. They typically do try to locate something with info on it. You can even put another copy in a center console.

They look in the glovebox for registration and insurance info typically. I am going to have it right at the top.

  9. Oh I am so sorry to hear about your accident. Thank goodness you are ok. My husband is a medic so we always have a huge medic bag in the car. I don't know that I would be able to function but at least we are prepared.

  10. I'm so glad you're okay! That is so scary! We have contact/insurance/emergency information in all of our vehicles.
Great reminder of having those in a place that the emergency departments will think to look for them.

  13. I used to do IT for the EMS in my area. I hated going on the road with them because of being there to respond to accidents (sorry, not good with blood). I can tell you horror stories of the things I unfortunately saw. This would be a great thing, I know they were thrilled when it became possible to have an ICE contact in your cell phones. This would help for the people that do not have a phone that does this. I am glad you and your family are okay.

  14. Glad that you are ok. Your car took quite the beating. There is something positive that you can take away from just about anything negative or bad that happens to one in life and you did just that! This is a great idea and thanks for passing this on.
