Learning to read is so important. It opens up a whole new world. I think reading really helps with imagination as well. Since you see the story in your head.
Reading Horizons is committed to helping people learn. They have an excellent program. They have taken the time to see how kids can best learn the ABC’s, and their sounds. To have a good foundation of that makes reading easier.
In just 16 short lessons your kids will know the ABC’s, and some words. The letters are NOT taught in ABC order though. They teach a group of consonants with a vowel. These are grouped together to start adding small words that use the letter they know.
My daughter will be 5 next month. We have been using the system and she has come a long way. I took the course and adjusted it to fit us. That is such a great feature. I don’t have to follow a time frame at all. I can do things on a slower pace and really make sure she knows everything.
With being so young we have done the first 15 lessons several times. These are just the foundation. I love that she is starting to read, but I am holding her back a bit, since I don’t want her to be bored in school either. I am having her read books beginning books. She checked out books from the library the other day, so she could read to her brother.
We haven’t progressed further in the series yet. But I am very excited to continue with the series. Thumbing through the other chapters, we will start combining further sounds and learning more go to words.
As we go through more chapters, I am going to write about her progress.
